Beating your children as a parent?

A common quote 'You were not beaten enough as a kid'. Usually told by someone who was beaten by his dad himself and possibly got visits from his old man when he was laying alone in his bed at night.

I think is not okay to forget, this is a shame and you should show him that he should feel ashamed.
I was beaten just by my father, most of time for slight reasons, in general I was a good kid, and I still reproach this to him, he have to feel ashamed for hist stupidity.

Kid's punishments are supossed to be corrective. And beating isn't. It will only make the kid resentfull and even more reactive than before.
You should punish your kids with other ways, as well as reward them , too.

Exactly. But in very very extreme cases, when children do not show any respect for their parents, a little symbolic beating might help, so I am for it.
On the other hand, i suppose every normal parents will feel just as hurt about beating their child, as the child is hurt, when he was beaten.

By beating, you mean spanking or whatnot?

Because i agree, with that being the limit. Throwing things, using weapons, or generally anything that would leave a mark is abuse.

I was beaten as a kid. My father brought out his belt when I did something wrong. Sometimes any object he could find. My mother used to throw objects at me. My uncles used to beat me too. They got beaten when they were kids too. It was normal and part of the culture but I think my father sometimes took it too far, he would beat me for the slightest reason and really badly, it got to the point where I got scared of being around him and I remember I ran away from home.

But no, I wouldn't beat my children. I would dicipline them in a different way. If they were bad behaved or hyper I would take them to some boxing gym or martial arts school or wrestling, it really gives children a character. As a kid, since I was bad behaved and hyper I think thats what I needed exactly. When I did boxing/kickboxing, I just had this calm and inner peace inside of me that probably couldn't even be reached with meditation.


Children that don't obey shouldn't be beaten but rather disciplined by other means as the above.

A child should be disciplined very early on and develope good habits that they take with them on in later life.

Same here, my dad would whip the shit out of me and my brothers if we did something wrong although he stopped when we got older although my mother never hit me since she thought it was wrong. I would never hit my kid either
