No child should be allowed to impose himself or herself on others, especially parents and adults.
Correcting behavior harshly is the only way to get results. Try diplomacy with a child, lol. You'll see very quickly who's cuter, sweeter, and more manipulative in that case, and you'll lose.
Kids should know what respect is and today they don't. They don't respect their parents, teachers, peers, and least of all themselves otherwise they wouldn't behave so poorly.

But I think beating is too much.

Beating a kid will surely not make them respect the adult who is beating them, all it will do is make them fearful and hateful towards the parent

The Albanians, these tigers of mountain wars ... have as their religion rebellion. Even their worst warrior is one of the strongest and bravest on the battle-field, just as if he was a knight on the legendary horse. But he has no horse, nor proper weapons for battle. Instead of the horse, he has a lance which strikes as lightning, he has spears who's points are full of posion as the sting of hornets, he has also a wooden bow with some arrows. Furthermore, he is stronger than iron ...

No, parents who beat their children don't know who to raise the child, and how to lead the right direction to the kid. One of my female acquaintance always beat his son, he was confined to his room, where he wetted himself. Social workers took the son away.

I didn't advocate beatings, and I voted "No"
    Read my last line, please.

But a child learns how to respect himself by watching parents and teachers demand respect for themselves. Watching an adult not tolerate testy and rude behaviors from children is part of learning how to not tolerate being walked on by others.

Yeah, this is true. Sometimes when your parents beat you, yell and curse at you etc it feels like they hate you. Atleast thats how I felt it as a kid. But really its because they are miserable themselves and let it go out on their own children or people they love

only when needed, I was a kid, and my parents taught me this way. I see nothing wrong. Now, you cannot beat the shit out of them for 'sport', that's wrong, and not what im in favour of.
All around me are familiar faces, worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for the daily races, going nowhere, going nowhere
