The Bulgarian and Ecumenical Patriarch Discuss the Future of the Macedonian Church
DOBRICH, BULGARIA - On Sunday a delegation of Bulgarian politicians, diplomats and priests are going to Istanbul for the re-opening of the Iron Church. The delegation is, naturally, led by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria but will include another really important member - the Bulgarian Patriarch himself. Patriarch Neophyte is going to Istanbul to serve a liturgy alongside the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople - Bartholomew.
While the opening ceremony is the main reason for the visit, all sides will use the opportunity to catch-up and discuss important issues. For instance, the two Patriarchs have scheduled a meeting on the Macedonian problem. The recognition of a Macedonian Orthodox Church is important for the relationship between the Christian countries on the Balkans. The liturgy will take place on January 7th, both President Erdogan and Prime Minister Borisov are going to be present. The Iron Church was under renovation for 6 years and cost 3,5 Million Euro.
