East Slavic look more North-East Upper Paleolithic (except for Ukrainians they are closer to West Slavic), West Slavic more Alpine and South Slavic more Dinaric and Med.

I am wondering if there is a really big difference between west and east slavs. I was many times mistaken for a Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian (last time in Cracow, three months ago)

Well there's Eastern Slavs differ more from Poles than other West Slavs like Czechs. There are though certain looks that are present in Poles and Eastern Slavs that are scarce or not present in other West Slavs, but it's a minority of it.

I think there is a slight stereotype of South Slavic's being very tan dark people. From my experience in Croatia and Slovenia they are very baby faced and maybe a little darker than your average West Slav.

Slovenians and north Croats are closer to west Slavs genetically and with phenotypes. Most of the time it's about phenotype and face, not about pigmentation.
