When Arabs lived in Spain, there was no surnames, and patrimonics were temporal.

Ftdna gave me 0% east-middle east (arabia). The only DNA I have from the middle east is from the levant(about 20%).
Did I say something like that at all?
Did I even ask you about your au analyzis?

Jews in spain started to adopt surname before the local ones, around the 12th century.
these surnames weren't patronomical in most cases but they rather described physical traits and someones job (turgeman- translator in arabic, azulay- from the word azul in spanish, describes someone with blue eyes. betito- from french word petit- describes a short person. Morano- spanish word for a dark skinned person. Ben-Bassat- someone who sells carpets and ect.)
My surname, like turgeman is arabic word based. that's what I meant. English isn't my first language so it causes misunderstandings sometimes.

They say it's slavic, but I am not entirely sure. It's not sure whether we got the pronounciation from them, or they from us. It can be found outside of Hungary in Slovakia.
It's very common in Hungary, and it's one of the many surnames that means an ethnic group. Mine means "German", just with a plus letter at the end.
The time they came up with surnames (in the 13-14. century) it meant mostly someone who could speak German, or worked for German people, or had maybe similar clothes to what Germans wear.

My surname finds it's roots in North Germany and Denmark, especially well-known in the state of Schleswig-Holstein where my paternal line comes from.
