My surname is a bit complicated. My family is still trying to determine if the spelling was changed when my ancestors immigrated. However, I'll state my answer based on what I know.

My surname is of English origin and it is an occupational surname for a stained glass painter. It's not the rarest surname in the U.S., but it's definitely not as common as other occupational surnames such as Smith or Baker.

The funniest thing is, I have the German version of my surname on my mother's side (but the families are different, of course).
