Not the first car accident ever, but the first car accident in the area of our contry happened on 1 May 1900.
In 1897, in the town of Kopřivnice, Moravia, were produced the very first automobil in the area of Austro-Hungarian Empire, called Praesident.
One of its first models, had an accident during the drive test on 1 May 1900 at Rychaltice, village located nearby. When the cars went downhill at stony road, there, the driver lost control and overthrowed the car. The driver Leopold Sviták had seriouly wonded leg, what hat to be amputed. Front passenger Jan Kuchař died immediately at the place of accident, mechanic Viktor Bayer was also seriously injured, just only the fourth passenger, Romuald Bruner, was not injured.
