An eye for an eye means you harm the person that harms you. It doesn't mean you harm someone else who had nothing to do with the action against you.
Btw, ISIS is obviously lying about having a connection to this guy. Should we consider this act of deception a sign of lacking righteousness? Would Muhammad approve of such a deception?

Prophet Muhammad PBUH said to FLEE FROM WAR unless they're already on your doorstep. He did that himself.
Also, war instructions pertaining to particular battles against the Quraish (and the Jewish tribes who were their allies) cannot be applied to all Jews or all wars. Everything has a context. There are many other instances in relation to Jews, Christians, pagans, slaves, where you must take jurisprudence into account and not apply things out of context.
Eye for an eye is something I believe in, though I don't agree with your application of it. Attacking unarmed citizens because you cannot face the armed militia that is invading you is not an eye for an eye, it is a show of weakness and desperation, and it is not the image I would like for followers of Elohim/Allah.
If you believe in End Times then surely you know that one of the signs of Qiyamah is widespread Islamic ignorance amongst Muslim scholars, and widespread fitna amongst the Ummah.
Islam is neither passive nor aggressive. It is a balanced and just way of life, the way the religion of Israel originally was.
Now go on and debate this, telling me that Islam is aggressive and terroristic, which serves the purposes of the slanderous non-Muslims against Islam.
