Thinking of doing Krav Maga.........

I want (need) to learn self-defense. I'm not interested in taking part in tournaments or winning competitions but I want to learn how to take someone (with a gun or knife) out effectively and efficiently at close range. From what I've gathered, krav maga isn't a martial art but a hand-to-hand combat system.

Does anyone here know anything about it? Have you done it or knows someone who does?

Krav maga is a martial art i think. Martial arts are combat systems.
Only ones that arent usually directed for combat are internal arts. Like tai chi. But tai chi has combat origins too. Its moves are combat moves or steps performed slowly in practice believe it or not.

You just need one focused on fighting assailants with weapons while un armed.

I've thought about doing that myself. When I move to Denver, I will integrate my body and mind by going back to the gym, and doing some simple hiking and mountain climbing. Krav Maga is my first choice for a martial arts style because it is no nonsense. It was developed as a street-fighting technique when an Israeli soldier had to figure out how to train and organize an army in 5 days. It is predicated on the assumption that your enemy is out to kill you. Krav is the most practical and efficient for the 21st century. You may also want to supplement it with training in boxing, that most deadly of martial arts.

Nonsense. I get winded walking to the living room and back. I live in a shitty, overpriced 1 bedroom apartment. Can't wait to move to Denver and get a condo or townhouse. Gonna start climbing those mountains.
