Stavridis: Macedonia is a next member of NATO

WASHINGTON – Macedonia is the next country to join the NATO alliance, said former commander of the Alliance, James Stavridis, who said that this would be the next step towards the unification and strengthening of the Balkans.

“I hope Greece will be able to resolve the name dispute with Macedonia, which will open the door for Macedonia to become part of NATO, and I think Macedonia will join the Alliance,” Stavridis told Voice of America.

According to his words, this would be the next step towards the unification and strengthening of the Balkans.

US Vice President Mike Pence, on behalf of President Donald Tramp, earlier this month, in a phone conversation with Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, reiterated support for Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.

“Pens said that the United States continues to support Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, and encouraged Zaev to continue with reforms that will speed up Macedonia’s path in that direction,” it was announced from the White House.

Well, you have to think in a practical, realistic way. Sign of the times. We live in a materialistic society, everybody wants an iPhone and a Mercedes, the discrepancy of living standards between West and ex communist countries is huge, the West won the cold war etc. No one can blame you. It is in human nature that someone strives for a better life and that we look up to the winners.
Holding on to nationalism, dreams about ancestors that lived in Helm 3 Millennia ago in order to justify our existence as (insecure and until recently Analphabet)nations and to the romantic ideas of a new Byzantium where everyone wants to be the prominent nation, can only be dangerous in an area like the Balkans, where nobody is settled with his current borders and three colliding ideologies (Hellenism, Panslavism, Albanism) exist-

I don't know did you visited Balkans or East. I visited East/Balkan/West, and i saw that our type of living in totally different. I don't know why media trying to impose western lifestyle to other parts of Europe. That is impossible. We all have our "mainstream".

Well I live in Vienna since 1992, I visit Greece 3-4 times a year , I drive twice a year through Yugoslavia.
The Serbs I meet in Vienna speak about Slavs, Orthodoxy, the "bad west" etc, the behavior is not in accordance with what they say. Afaik it is much more important for them to eat at Burger King, carry a Luis Vuitton/ Chanel, drive a BMW and post photos of their tatoos on fb than celebrate slava with the grandmother at home. And it is no more "western lifestyle ", nowadays it is so broadly accepted that you can speak of global or better capitalistic lifestyle
