Default What is worth visiting in Rio?

Starting on November 15, I'll be in Rio de Janeiro, for 3 days. Then I'll move to Porto Alegre for 2 days and stay later 1 day in Foz-de-Iguaçu. What is worth visiting in Rio except the statue of Christ the Redeemer and favelas? I'm fluent in Spanish, it is worth learn some Portuguese?

3 days is such a short time, if you had more time and were talking about the whole State and not just the city of Rio de Janeiro (the capital) I could recommend more things. You can get by with Spanish or English only if you'll stay just in the Zonal Sul of the capital and visit only the major tourist attractions, but some Portuguese will always be very helpful. About favelas, I recommend you to stay away from them, but don't take my word for it. Serious, take my word for it.

I don't understand these guys visiting favelas as touristic places. It's like visiting poor gypsy communities in EE, there's no sense.

There's a lot of things to do in Rio if you're a sports oriented guy. You can surf, you can do delta plane. paragliding or just hang around the beaches.
If you have an extremely Nordic type it will be very easy to grab mulattas or black girls by the pussy (if you're a brunette white guy they will just think you're Brazilian) and maybe even white middle class girls.

You can also go to the center of the city where they have some historical buildings and it's cool overall. This place is nice:

It's called Real Gabinete Português de Leitura (Royal Portuguese Library or something like that) and have an amazing interior.

I have lived there for 2 years and I must say that I don't really like the city, but it's a good place to just visit.

Foz do Iguaçu will be the best attractive between these in your list. I would not recommend you go to Rio, mainly these days, but if you can, try to pass your time in the South Zone of the city or the West part (close to the beaches), these are the best and safest parts of the city.

That's alright, no favelas then. I heard there are a lot of nice beaches in Rio.

Is street crime rate so high in Rio, as it is shown in Hollywood movies?

Yes, there are, but if you like beaches and were willing to go outside the capital I'd recommend you Ilha Grande and Região dos Lagos, there are much better beaches there than the most well known beaches of the Rio city such as Copacabana, Ipanema, etc.

Yes, judging by the tripadvisor, there is a lot to see in Rio, I wish I could stay there longer.

Not really, Rio received two big events recently, the problem is that Rio is a bankrupt state by now, so they are facing some problems, anyway I have no much to say, I never visited Rio in my life, but I have many friends from there and they say it to me: "Zona Sul is better to stay".

This guy is a known russian youtuber that visits places here and he lives here, but not in Rio. I just find this video of him. I perceive his video was filmed mainly in South Zone of the city.
