This is not about a fight between ALL Catalans wanting to be independent and some evil non-Catalan Spaniards who oppress them and don't want to let them go, as the cheater Catalan independentists want to portray.

They also had the flag of Catalonia but it wasn't the Estelada flag which is more common among Catalan independence supporters. Probably a rivalry between two far-right groups that are connected to two different football clubs. I know that Valencia's Ultra Yomus are a far-right group pro-Spanish unity, if I am not wrong. I know that Espanyol also has far-right Ultras pro-Spain unity but I don't know if they get along with one another (I am inclined to believe they hate each other).

Ultras Sur of Real Madrid and Frente Atlético de Madrid are both far-right groups and they hate each other.

VIOLENCE broke out in Spain today as independence campaigners clashed with pro-unity protesters during the country’s National Day.

The groups were seen hurling metal chairs and tables at one another in Barcelona before police moved in to break up the violence.

Families with Spanish flags were seen fleeing as chairs were used as missiles when the two camps faced off.
