The Pentagon has said that 40 to 50 militants ambushed a 12-man U.S. force in Niger on Oct. 4, killing four and wounding two. The U.S. patrol was seen as routine and had been carried out nearly 30 times in the six months before the attack, the Pentagon has reported.

SF are there for assisting in killing terrorists. There are about 800 USA military there. USA also has a drone base there.
France has some military there also, would not be surprised if the Brits are there also.

The US military junta has at least 1000 special forces in Tongo Tongo, Niger.

Senators Stunned to Discover We Have 1,000 Troops in Niger
The death of four soldiers has opened eyes to that mission. It’s also raised a question: How can our presence there be justified by a law passed in 2001?

“The many questions surrounding the death of American service members in Niger show the urgent need to have a public discussion about the current extent of our military operations around the world,” Kaine said. “For sixteen years, Congress has remained largely silent on this issue, allowing administrations to go to war anywhere, anytime.”

If members of Congress have to vote on such a matter, many expect to face political blowback. And the consequences aren’t hypothetical; there’s wide agreement that Hillary Clinton’s 2002 vote to authorize the Iraq War played a key role in her defeat in the 2008 Democrat presidential primary.

Has Niger discovered any oil wells recently?

Discovering oil in your country usually causes that.

USA is dam near a net exporter of energy these days. If we want Oil in Africa our energy companies will buy it, like they do some from Nigeria.

    Niger has uranium

More importantly, it is 100% Muslim

You don't want to die, don't invade or meddle in countries not your own. These invaders faced justice from the citizens of Niger...wouldn't Americans do the same?
