If Spaniards had colonized Canada, would they descendants be interested in winter sports?

Despite having enough mountain slopes and enough snowfall (global warming notwithstanding) Spaniards have always fared rather poorly in winter sports. Someone suggested it's because winter sports are too hard and Spaniards would rather chill on the playa under el sol caliente but I really don't know.
My question is: do you think if they had colonized Canada would they descendants be interested in those activities given the harsh and cold canadian climate?
