I live in austria, surrounded by german culture, i dress up in cowboyhats etc. but if i lived in america or UK i would dress up in Lederhosen etc. it would be the reverse, its called "fernweh" (wanderlust) that you want to be somewhere far away etc. or a different interesting culture

Everyone in America is obsessed with being Irish and/or German. If you ask the average person around my town where their ancestry is from, 90% of them will say Irish or German before anything. I once "talked" to a girl from my city, and she had a weird obsession with Germany, and it was just odd to me. So many people here are of German origins, so it seems weird for so many people to be so proud of it.

I honestly rarely hear english ancestry being mentioned from them even though that's more likely to comprise of their ancestry but in the end the average white american is a mix of all the above although I guess that wouldn't sound as exotic to say. Ironic too considering that the Irish and Germans(specifically during WW1&2) were persecuted heavily within the US back then.

It is very odd. In my opinion, English ancestry is the highest in the US (though statistically German is) No one is proud of their English heritage because were taught in the US from a young age that England is the basis culturally for white people, and that it's essentially boring, so people here naturally gravitate towards other parts of their ancestry. I'm sure you've noticed!
