It was viewed as a matter of honor for any Greek citizen to defend his Politeia in the case of war.

The Spartans just put more emphasis on it and where most famous for this part.
For that matter the Cretan Polities in Classical were also like that.
You can find this in Plato's dialogues

Depends on what you consider ''Romans''. Proto-Italics were related to Celts and were Central European genetically. More or less like modern Venetians and NE Italians or even Austrians. Early Latins have absorbed Mediterranean influence in Italy and were more or less similar to modern Central Italians and Tuscans. Citizenship was expanded to all inhabitants of Italy after Roman hegemony through the peninsula, so all of them were ''Romans''.

After Caracalla and the Constitutio Antoniniana all inhabitants of the Empire were called ''Romans''. Roman and Latin ceased to be the same thing around the beggining of the Christian Era.

Greeks were the only non Roman people Romans didn't consider Barbarians

The Greek and Roman Pantheon was pretty much the same

Romans took alot of their culture from Greeks

Among the Roman highsociety it was popular to employ Greek teachers for the education of their children

Just as Alexander the Great was taught by the Greek philosopher Aristotelis
The Talmud tells us that the only language the Torah could be translated into elegantly is Greek.
