Greece received Oriental influence after we accepted Anatolian refugees in 1923. It's Serbia that received Oriental influence during Ottoman rule.

Greek identity is not based on religion either. There are Catholic Greeks in some Aegean islands.

Greek Orthodoxity is our cultural heritage though because it has a 1000 year Byzantine history behind. Lots of Ancient Greek rites were incorporated into the Greek church. It helped keep Greeks together under Ottoman rule etc. But it only has a decorative role today.

not western european per se (geography alone makes it an error) but I consider Greece to be the western world . I consider it more "western" than even countries like slovakia , poland etc.

Albanians are mostly similar with Balkan Slavs but they come to Greek threads trying to lump us in their company. Seems like inferioty complex.

Can you show me a reliable source on muslims and christians fighting against each other in ww2? Most albanians never fought in the war against each other, we were too busy being invaded by italy and sheltering jewish refugees (unlike "tolerant" christian europe).

Invaded? Greece liberated a millenia old Greek region i.e Northern Epirus from Ottoman rule. It couldn't have invaded Albania, because Albania did not exist until 1912, it was still an Ottoman province.

Really? I guess my Syrian Arab christian friend is a Greek since he is a Greek Orthodox christian like the majority of Christians in the Levant. Can you back your statements with evidence rather than simple wishful thinking? We already have recent genetic results of the Mycenaean Greeks confirming the genetic continuity of Greece, so it pretty much destroys the notion that Greeks have nothing to do with their ancient ancestors.

Maybe not modern day, but if this was 100 years ago he could have moved to Greece and assimilated no bother.
I speak in a historical sense, albanian identity was not based on religion but ethnicity unlike the rest of europe.

Man We are dealing with Cretan OWD here. Declaring Greeks European wouldnt glorify the Euro identity pretty much the contrary...Considering centuries long Turkish rule which no Greek group, without exception, could escaped.

Btw any normal Greek would assume the reality Greeks are part of the same Eastern, non-Euro, Byzantine, Orthodox heritage shared with Serbs and Romanians.
