Not that far. I only know the first name and surname of the ones I've known, most of them. I have known my great grandmother as a child and I don't know her name, only her nickname. In our culture (as in most cultures) it's considered rude to call family members by their real name too.

Anyway, I do know the name of my paternal grandfather, despite his having passed away in 1981, way before my birth.

Not very. Part of the problem is that, until the 20th century, the family name in Norway was patronymic. As in Iceland today, each generation added "sen" in Norway or "son" in Iceland to the father's given name . My maternal grandfather's given name was Ole: Ole Henrik Andreassen, which he changed to Ole Henrik Førde. All of his 10 children were named , not Andreassen or Førde, but OLSEN.

My family knows like one or two generations back. The conclusion I have come to based on what I know is my paternal grandmother either had a affair or my family changed their surname.

Your family tree is a combination of your mother's family tree and your father's family tree. Duhhhh

Ok. So what you meant? In any cases our family's genealogy study is now going on at 16th century (what comes to Skåne and Småland ancestors /Sweden), 16th century (what comes to Södermanland and Uppland ancestors /Sweden) and 17th century (what comes to Ostrobothnia ancestors
    / FIN).

It has become hard to get any furher, but with some lines I think we still can/could.

    Nope.
This is the table of ascendants.
Only total retards (mostly in anglosphere) call it family tree,
what is not tree at all. Tree does not grow from million of
different non-related roots, neither belong to many different
seeds. Someone has to be a total imbecile to think like that.
These people on the top are not even related - they are not
a family at all - they were total strangers to each other,
so how they can be in one family tree? HOW?
