How many generations does it take to fully assimilate and become a real American?

If you are non-White guy(Mestizo,Arab, South Asian ect.), what happens you marry a White woman and then in the 3rd generation your children look White if you are referring to racial assimilation.

However if you are speaking about culture, I would say the 3rd generation they will indeed be totally Americanized.

I don't know. I came here was a toddler and I am pretty Americanized. Many of my cousins who were born here are totally American, they can't speak worth shit of Chinese or know anything about China. I actually find that kind of annoying but hey.

It's the most honest answer and probably the most accurate one. Different cultures and different ethnic groups assimilate at different rates and it also varies with the individual. My older sister who left China when she was 10 never assimilated and could never adapt no matter how much she tried (and how much we tried to help her). Yet I've seen older South Africans who've adapted in a matter of months.

P.S. You assimilate rather fast considering you weren't born here (learn something new everyday). I feel you are more American than me if that makes sense

That's cultural assimilation.

Racial assimilation is like when an Arab guy marries a White woman, then the mixed race children grow up and marry White, until they look White. I know it happened in my family. My cousin is half Anglo-American and her children look nothing like us.

I think African takes a bit longer if you are talking about racial assimilation, and Mestizos is the fastest from what I have seen.

Umm sorry to burst your bubble but I'm a first generation and so are most in my Indian Gujarati community. My relatives all across America have friends of White American background and go to NFL games with them or watch baseball and basketball with their white colleagues after work or class. In addition to this they have a circle/clique of Indian friends.

You have no idea what you're talking about. Most Whites here don't expect us to ditch our culture and become all-American. This is a free country, we're allowed to practice our religion, our culture, and eat our own food. We show respect to others and expect the same respect given to us in return.

I agree however that Northwest Europeans are the only ones who are TRULY American. I've already admitted this.

My formative years were all in the US from age 5 and up so my childhood was really not very different from most ABCs. If I didn't actually spend effort to learn Chinese, I wouldn't really be fluent beyond a toddler's level.
