It's still not close to autosomal DNA. I don't give a shit a R1b afro-American is not more like a R1b Englishman than even a J2 Englishman. I don't think you should take the idea that "it's of no importance" literally. It's just not what most people who first discover haplogroups think it is. The part of my DNA I exclusively get from my father that was exclusively passed down by patriarchal lineage must have some sort of special function. However does that affect me more than my overall genome that would control stuff like pigmentation, facial shape, height, musculature, brain size, athleticism, intelligence, body shape and so on?
It's not even close really. Autosomal always says more about a individual than Y-DNA.

What if you have a subclade that you can link your phenotype to? I agree with you that the fathers DNA must have a function and so does the DNA that controls facial bone structure, body type etc..
