Forced? No offense but are you saying Americans with their 'shotgun weddings' that someone is literally holding a loaded 12 gauge? And to think I always thought it was a figure of speech. Sorry, couldn't help it.

Seriously though? I suppose it depends on tradition, culture and the people's viewpoint. As for the suggested hyphenated [double-barreled] surnames, those can sometimes be problematic. I've been told by French-Canadians I know that others don't quite 'understand', shall we say, hyphenated surnames.

In Russia vast majority of women take husband surname, though there is no law obliging to do so. However retaining maiden surname is becoming more and more widespread, because name changing is not as easy as 50 years ago. There are many instances where name is recorded bank account, job, hospital, insurance etc etc. changing all of them can be very time consuming.

And obligatorly striped of it at the divorce (if they had to be, which shouldn't).

There are really very rare cases when she should keep
her maid name. Very rare, but it doesn;t change the rule.

    What?

As for the suggested hyphenated [double-barreled] surnames, those can sometimes be problematic.
It is another idiotic practise promoted by leftists to destroy family and tradition.
Many man have allready a surname with cognomen, which have the clear meaning,
so allowing to make fusion of names is just confusing and its clear goal is dto destroy
clear identification system. Sense of joining surnames has only in the case of a widow
with small children which is remarring - but it is not necessarly.

    You are inconsistent.
You are disgusted by taking a name of a woman,
but you are fine, if your children will have her national identity.
It is mentality of an inseminator and pantywaiste.

So yes, truth is gamma - truth, that you are pantywaiste insaminator,
ashaming of own forefathers, and making babies for someone else.
