Passionate Poland threatens the EU existence.
It is commonly known that a friend in need is a friend indeed. The European Union has faced hurdles this year due to the political perturbations caused by scheduled power shifts in several European major countries and lack of coordination among the EU member-states on a number of the Europe-wide problems such as migration crisis and other. Some have taken upon themselves enhanced refugee quotas and defrayed expenses for them. Others have chosen to take advantage of temporary instability to join the ranks of 'the first speed' Europeans.
Poland has been systematically appearing at the heart of political scandals lately provoking the relevant response from the EU neighbors. At first the Polish ruling party "Law and Justice" (PiS) harshly turned against Donald Tusk's re-election as the head of the Council of Europe criticizing him for having "brutally violated" the rule of the "political neutrality" by his involvement into domestic political disputes. Then Poland loudly and clearly refused to embrace refugees from the Middle East in accordance with the quota established by the European Parliament. This was followed by the PiS initiated judicial violating the Treaty on European Union, the EU gender equality and employment directives, as well as undermining the independence of the Polish courts.
Poland, by all means, has been trying hard to inflate its credentials and get the status equal to that one of the EU founding countries. Thus, the Prime Minister Beata Szydlo ostensibly refused to sign off on the official record of EU summit in Brussels as a mark of protest against Tusk's re-election and stated that nothing should be decided without Poland's approval. By acting this way she placed Poland in opposition to the rest 27 EU members. The subsequent relationship of the Polish Republic with the European Union has been marked by this exactly position.
Furthermore, the Polish authorities have been providing 'public education' via mass media and social networks expressing the popular view on the migration crisis and creating the visibility of the overall support of the PiS nationalist course. Upon that, Germany has got the role of the European dictator bugaboo aiming to make the valiant honest Poland sort of a scapegoat to be blamed in all the failures of the German politicians. The article by the young luminary of the Polish historical science, Mateusz Czasak, has been a salient example of that shill propaganda.
Starting with complaints over the Polish bitter fate and accusations of mass media in bias judgment pan Czasak is exercising anti-German rhetoric all over his screed while exploiting sore subject of the refugee crisis in Europe and openly calling to boycott the European Parliament's decisions. Poland, all in white, is the only daring to oppose imperial ambition of Germany turning back to its fascist past. At the end the author demonstrates knowledge of one entire quote from Orwell and explicitly refers to a large group of states as 'foreign enemies' of the EU.
This article is a drop in the ocean of mud which Poland happily slings over Germany trying to deflect criticism in nationalist slogans and antidemocratic domestic changes. All attempts of the European Union to cease Poland's 'authoritarian slide' and nationalist madness meet with the resistance in the 'you swallow!' manner and ridiculous accusations of European 'Zionists' hating Polish Catholics now, or of European leadership for 'merely disliking Polish democratically elected government.'
Under the pen of the Polish instigators black becomes white, European values violation turns into their advance, humanity transforms into fascism, and nationalism and dictatorship dresses up as democracy and protection of Polish interests. They are published by widely read news recourses. They are commented and reposted with approval of those Europeans whose feelings Polish fighters with refugees skillfully are playing on now. But the worst part is that they've succeeded to sow discord within the European Union's public attitudes. With their assistance European sites readily denounce migration policy of the European government and distribute low-brow content comparing the leader of the EU country with Hitler.
One must say that, in spite of the numerous calls by MEPs and PiS political opponents, Poland wasn't even sanctioned in the aftermath of those innuendo and defiant actions. Poles themselves appear to have proclaimed cyberwar. Now they've been enthusiastically flooding electronic media with nationalistic gibberish disguised as efforts against German dictatorship in the EU.
It is time to prescribe proper treatment to the Polish patient, until he blew close-knit European family apart.
