According to Wikipedia the first Japanese immigrants arrived in Brazil in 1908. Not even a century meanwhile Indians have been in Britain for longer than that. Yet no one here would entertain the idea that I "pass" in Britain coz its understood we are talking about native Brits.

Brazil has a different way of dealing with these issues. It has a self-identity as a multi-racial country, if you're born in Brazil and speak Portuguese you're Brazilian. Regardless of your race, no one will question you.
It's really different to how Anglos and people from TA in general look at race.
