Sofia. Bulgaria has provided humanitarian aid worth about BGN 70,000 to flood-stricken Albania, the press office of the Ministry of the Interior said. Today, two flights on Spartan cargo aircraft headed by Nikolay Nikolov, Chief Commissioner of Fire Safety and Civil Protection directorate, delivered the relief supplies in the presence of the Bulgarian Consul and representatives of Bulgaria’s embassy in Tirana.
Thousands of families were affected by the floods in Albania caused by the torrential rains in the Balkan Peninsula. The floods have destroyed about 30 bridge facilities, the southernmost part of the country has been hit hardest. The aid of about 8 tonnes of tents, mattresses, blankets, first aid kits and other essentials was provided from the reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Ministry of the Interior and the Bulgarian Red Cross.
A third flight to Tirana is scheduled for tomorrow to deliver the next shipment.
