The above is just a very rough and incomplete picture.

There is recently an ecumenical push for unity within Christianity, spearheaded by the Vatican and other large umbrella church bodies. Recently (I think it was last year?) a reconciliation took place between Catholicism and Orthodoxy, effectively healing the Great Schism rift in communion between the two of a thousand years. It was a significant event. And this year, in 2017, there has been a great effort to heal the divide between the Catholic Church and Protestant denominations, as the year marked the 500th anniversary of the official start of the Reformation when Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses at the door of the church in Wittenberg.
