    First of all there hasn't been a Fimbul winter, and there sure as Nivlheim ain't a peacefull world. But do you belive that Ragnarok has happened?

    And if not; Will it happen? Are we humans able to have a peaceful world? Will we learn from Ragnarok as we haven't learned from anything else? I think not! Ragnarok might happen, but not with the prescribed consequences.
    Just a couple of things...
    Thor kills Jormungand, yes. But Jormungand kills Thor too. Thor, after killing Jormungand, will take nine steps backwards and collapse dead.

    And I thought the three year-long winter occurred before Ragnarok began, following the three-year long war between all on Midgard?

    Anyhoo. I don't think it's happened. Why? Because it was Thor who came to me in a dream and lead me onto the path of Ásatrú, and it is he who speaks to me in my astral trips.

    Snorri is far from credible in his accounting of prophecy, or anything else.

    It will happend. It has happend. Different types of ragnarok has occured several times i belive. The written story about ragnarok i think is a mix made by snorri/others. War is naturally, it is good and we need it. Snorri was a christian, following whitecrist as viking calles him (Jesus (White means cowardly)), and of curse he is not to be trusted. Every description made by christians, muslims and jews is never to be trusted.

    I interpret it as a metaphor (for the series of natural cycles of day/night, summer/winter, triumph/loss, birth/death.)

    According to most old religious traditions, especially Indo-European traditions, the universe goes through cycles of creation, decline, destruction, and rebirth. This process is inherent in most things in nature, for example morning, afternoon, night, morning ; sping, summer, autumn, winter, spring; birth, maturation, old age, death ; the rise and fall of civilizations or cycles of history, etc.

    The Hindu and Norse traditions are agreed in the decline in humanity before the end of the cycle, namely Kali Yuga. Attributes of Kali Yuga:

    Prophesied events during the Kali Yuga[edit]
    A discourse by Markandeya in the Mahabharata identifies some of the attributes of Kali Yuga [16].

    In relation to rulers, it lists:

    Rulers will become unreasonable: they will levy taxes unfairly.
    Rulers will no longer see it as their duty to promote spirituality, or to protect their subjects: they will become a danger to the world.
    People will start migrating, seeking countries where wheat and barley form the staple food source.
    "At the end of Kali-yuga, when there exist no topics on the subject of God, even at the residences of so-called saints and respectable gentlemen of the three higher varnas (guna or temperament) and when nothing is known of the techniques of sacrifice, even by word, at that time the Lord will appear as the supreme chastiser." (Srimad-Bhagavatam (2.7)
    With regard to human relationships, Markandeya's discourse says:

    Avarice and wrath will be common. Humans will openly display animosity towards each other. Ignorance of dharma will occur.
    People will have thoughts of murder with no justification and will see nothing wrong in that.
    Lust will be viewed as socially acceptable and sexual intercourse will be seen as the central recreation of life.
    Sin will increase exponentially, while virtue will fade and cease to flourish.
    People will become addicted to intoxicating drinks and drugs.
    Gurus will no longer be respected and their students will attempt to injure them. Their teachings will be insulted, and followers of Kama will wrest control of the mind from all human beings.
    Women will no longer get married, and when they do they will constantly talk back to their husbands and be very emotional.
    Traditional castes will disappear and everyone will belong to a single social class.
    Brahmins will not be learned or honored, Kshatriyas will not be brave, Vaishyas will not be just in their dealings, and the varna system will be abolished.
    The Voluspa:

    Brothers shall fight | and fell each other,
    And sisters' sons | shall kinship stain;
    Hard is it on earth, | with mighty whoredom;
    Axe-time, sword-time, | shields are sundered,
    Wind-time, wolf-time, | ere the world falls;
    Nor ever shall men | each other spare.

    I'm a fan of Norse myths,but I don't believe in personified gods,so it won't happen for me as an agnostic,but I think the Vikings probably thought Ragnarok will happen,since there're prophecies in Eddas
    So if the gods are real,I think Ragnarok is a future tense

    Ragnarok was written when the events occured and someone changed present perfect to future present tense i,e I have written, to I will have written.

    The events of Ragnarok have already been historically substantiated as having occured in 1628 B.C. at the same time as the Ogygian deluge and Noah’s flood all of which are accounts of the same event, the Thera Erruption Mega Tsunami which flooded the entire Aegean, Midgard and destroyed the Minoan civilization.
