I bought the Golden Legend illustrated with paintings from the Italian Renaissance. I’m so excited to have that book! It’s a best-seller from the XIIIth century by Jacobus de Voragine. It’s a collection of hagiographies and it recounts also episodes of Jesus’ life, based greatly on apocryphal texts. The Golden Legend had a huge influence on religious iconography.



I also bought the book Les singeries de Chantilly, on apes in the decorative art of the XVIIIth century. Until now, I had been particularly interested in apes in the iconography and the texts from Western Middle Ages.
