It is still a fun place to go to, but there was a major population shift that happened in the 60's and 70's. People that used to live around the area were middle class Cubans, Italians, and Spanish, but they all moved away and got replaced by blacks. Crime has risen since then(coincidence? I think not!)

Try running a liquor store or motel in these cities especially Oakland (not far from SF), which is in the top 10 most dangerous cities in America. Or near Detroit and also in Chicago.
