Default How do you feel about birth control?

Me and RMuller were arguing about it in another thread, so I thought I'd make this poll - please also comment your reasons for your opinion

Even in the most conservative parts of history and the world, non-religious mandated sex was rampant. Teaching abstinence as birth control has been disastrous in the US. So are you happy for your taxes to sharply rise? To subsidise the lives of unwanted children people won't want or be able to afford? If not, then you're not pro-life, you're just pro-spite, and are willing to see the net happiness of your country drop for religious beliefs you're forcing on others.

What is non-religious mandated sex? I've never heard that phrase before

Only because we did it halfway. Even if we teach abstinence, the existence of various contraceptives and abortion reduces the importance our youth place on it.If promiscuity truly meant a very good chance at an unwanted child you couldn't get rid of, more teenagers and young adults would keep it in their pants.

Those children would eventually become taxpayers, which would allow us to fund our retirement programs without importing millions of foreigners.

Some women may not like having huge families, but it would be better for society as a whole and the mothers in the long run

Hyphen was in the wrong place. I meant non religious-mandated sex. So sex outside of marriage.

You can't honestly believe that. Statistics show that teaching abstinence has been a resounding failure. In America, in Africa, everywhere. Telling people not to do something never works, it just makes it all the worse when it inevitably happens and doesn't give them the proper skills to prevent things like STIs and unwanted pregnancy. I won't even touch the health risks of backalley abortions.

HA! Because children born to low-socioeconomic families without the money or culture to encourage proper education will improve society?

You want to turn women into involuntary breeding cows to punish them? Does this not sound at all dystopic to you? Not everybody believes in hardcore christian values, do you not see any issue with forcing that upon them? No empathy for their situation whatsoever?

    Birth control is absolutely necessary.

Without it the world would be full of unhappy children. There would be a lot more mixed race children, more unhappy relationships, the list is endless.

And there's a limit to how many times a woman can become pregnant before it takes a toll on your body and health. To have a baby takes 9 months of your life and isn't the easiest thing in the world. Many women would be very unhappy with having many children.

In religious communities like the Amish or Orthodox Jews, there is very little premarital sex. The problem is that a lot of American kids don't get chastity ingrained in them from a young age.

They could pick our crops instead of importing millions of Mexicans, most of whom are either incapable or unwilling to assimilate.

Women who respect their bodies enough to remain chaste will not have these problems. The way I see it, if you want to sleep around, you should be willing to suffer the consequences.

Then why were we fine without it for thousands of years?

Debatable. Do you have any evidence children were unhappier back before it was invented?

There's nothing wrong with that, some of the best people I've known were biracial

I don't think there's such a thing as a happy relationships. All relationships are unhappy, it's just a question of how unhappy they are.

Then they shouldn't have sex when they're not interested in conceiving.
