    Luke-warm, breaking commandments?

Obsession with religion and the scriptures is a mental illness. It has the opposite effect than the intented. It leads to self-rightousness and bigotry.
But many people confuse obsession and biggotry with real believing and
godlyness, which have nothing common with boggotry, as for wicked men,
it is the worst scenario which they hate the much, so they call it degradatly
by comparing it to the blind religious (usually apostatic) idiots.

He meant the hypocrites and the pharisees who will be judged by their own conscience.

Religion can be a source of comfort that improves well-being. But some kinds of religiosity could be a sign of deeper mental health issues or a coping mechanism for dealing with unaddressed trauma or stress.

People with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), for example, may rigidly repeat holy verses, say Hail Mary’s or focus on other rituals less out of a deeper sense of faith but more as an expression of their disorder. “It looks positive but could be negative,” says Stephanie Mihalas, a UCLA professor and licensed clinical psychologist.

Model a healthy balance between religion and life

Show them in your own behavior, suggests Mihalas, how religion can co-exist with enjoying life.

Religious families need not worry that therapy will draw their child away from their faith, Hathaway says. He recalls one girl struggling with anorexia who felt that she could never be “good enough” to satisfy the harsh, judgmental God of her imagination. After psychological treatment that included a spiritual element, she not only recovered from her anorexia, she developed a more positive view of God, of other people and herself. Instead of being weighed down by guilt and anxiety, her spiritual life became a comfort and joy. And that’s the role that religion should have for people of faith.

I agree, the abovementioned examples are definitely negative signs, and are not what God wants for us. Ritualistic behaviour is religiosity, not true Christian spirituality.

"Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater" is an old saying.
Rituals keep us away from God, and real spiritual benefits...

We are only human beings, yes, but Jesus told us "be perfect, as your Father in heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48). God sees us as perfect if we are washed in the blood of Jesus to take away our sins, and as God gives us his Holy Spirit to enable us to live a holy life that is pleasing to him. But first, in order for us to receive his gift of the Holy Spirit, we have to give our lives to him, and repent of our sins, accepting Jesus into our lives who was sacrificed for our sins.

    Unfortunatly, it is not true.
Rituals of false, corrupted or apostate religion do keep us away from God.
Or right rituals made by unbeliever, or by just ritual-beliver.

But rituals per se are not wrong, as
whole Israelitic religion was based on it.
They can be very helpfull in grouping worship.
Of course if they are been doing in right goal and manner.
And also can't replace personal faith, trust, love and deeds..
