Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb caused a social media uproar with an interview on NPO Radio 1 in which he said that “every Muslim is a bit of a salafist”. PVV leader Geert Wilders called for Aboutaleb’s resignation.

The Rotterdam mayor discussed several topics with Thijs van den Brink, but it was his statements regarding Islam that caused a commotion, AD reports. For example, he said he sometimes considers himself a jihadist. “I get up every day at 7 o’clock to do good for a city in the Netherlands. That is the jihad in its purest form.” Van den Brink pointed out that this is not the form “we know in the Netherlands”. To which Aboutaleb responded that there are many definitions of jihad, “of which the armed struggle is only one form”. “And that also falls apart in the defense and the attack deployment”, he said.

Aboutaleb is also not worried about salafism. “Salafists can also be found among Christians, if you approach it linguistically. Salaf is a progenitor, and a salafist is someone who wants to look like his progenitor. For example, a Muslim who wants to look like Mohammed. In Christianity you also have people who want to look like Christ in their actions. Every Muslim is a bit of a salafist”, he said. He thinks salafism should not be banned, but the line should be drawn in the use of violence. The Salafists who want to be violent form a compact group, Aboutaleb said. “You have to track them down and isolate them.”

These statements caused quite the commotion on social media, with dozens of people commenting. “The Moroccan mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb calls himself a salafist”, Wilders said on Twitter. “A salafist as a mayor of the 2nd biggest city of the Netherlands is a total disgrace and a threat. He should be removed from office immediately.”

But the report adds that “he thinks salafism should not be banned, but the line should be drawn in the use of violence.”

Great, but what is the goal? Muhammad established an Islamic state, and the Qur’an teaches that Muslim must wage war against Jews and Christians and subjugate them under their rule. So is Aboutaleb’s goal an Islamic state in the Netherlands? Will anyone in the establishment media dare to go off the reservation and ask him? Of course not.

How that like who?? Albanians and Bosnians embraced MENA people, their customes, their culture etc, and along Serbians, Wallachians etc were their allies and allowed them to settle in Balkans.

Why is it okay for Wilders to say such things but not for an Arab? It seem hypocritical.

To be fair his words were obviously taken out of context for political gain.

The moment you start twisting an opponent's words the more rational people are turned off. All you're left with are those from the choir who will support everything and anything you say already.

I don’t understand

Nobody settled on Balkans...

We have embraced MENA people long long ago when many Egyptians were hellenized like Cleopatra, Carthage, Syria

Turks never settled on Balkans and those Turks were Turkified Greek whom Orthodoxes called Turks out of insult for their religion change.

You should read more before rushing to conclusion

He will of course be speaking of the Muslim Isa and not the Christian Jesus.
His Isa will kill all the Christians at the last day.
I think he is issuing a threat even if most of the dhimmified West wont be able to see it.

Saying there are Christian Salafists is like saying there were Nepalese and Native Americans who used the Swastika. The Muslim relationship with truth is a horrifying aspect (cornerstone?) to the broader ideology. Defies belief that a thing so wonky and violent is so pervasive.
