More relevant is that Stephen (Moldova) and Vlad (Wallachia) were relatives. That isn't a coincidence, they were just Romanians. Rich Romanian families were living in both states. True for the poor as well.

    Is that related with "Koledari"?

    Quote:

"Koledari are Slavic traditional performers of a ceremony called koleduvane, a kind of Christmas caroling. It is associated with Koliada, a celebration incorporated later into Christmas. "

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koledari

In Serbia this custom exists mostly in eastern Serbia and Vojvodina and is related with Vlachs.

They don't have any genetic connection, this I think is one the most propagandistic Romanian myth, same as the origins of Stephen's mother. They even looked totally different. To call Stephen the Great Romanian I think is one of the biggest insults towards his person.

Moldovan culture is Romanian culture, just like Venetian is Italian, or Bavarian is German etc. The Republic of Moldova should've been called Basarabia, the historical name for the region. Romania is the direct successor to the medieval Moldovan state, as the inhabitants of independent Moldova willingly decided to unite with Wallachia to form Romania, while Basarabia was forcefully annexed to Russia. Not to mention that all the historical capitals and most monuments are located in the western half, while Basarabia was an undeveloped backwater. You talk about loss of identity, when it's you Basarabians who are heavily Russified. You yourself mentioned that you have recent Russian/Ukrainian ancestors. Moldovans from Romania still speak their mother tongue, while you Basarabians speak Russian better than the so-called "Moldovan" language. This isn't an attack on Basarabians. I'm just setting the record straight.

Can't understand how is it related with Vlachs, when Kaledovanie is common even in northern slavic countries.

Similar traditions can even be found all the way to Slovenia and even Western Germany. They use similar costumes before easter.

Don't exist any Bessarabians or Basarabia, exist just Moldova and Moldavians. Bessarabia in fact is a logical historical name of Wallachia. The reason Romanians use these words toward Moldavians from RM, or Bukovina/ Bukovinians toward Moldavians from Suceava and Ukraine is just to humilate and ridicule Moldavian identity as a thing. These names was used intensive by Russians and Austrians who annexed parts of Moldova in the past, and is not just a coincidence what Romanians today regular use these words invented by "occupants". In 1859 Romania just annexed what remained from Moldavian state after heavy terriorial looses. And I don't have any recent Ukrainian, or even Russian ancestors, I am very pure from this perspective comporated to some local TA "Moldavians". As I said, when you don't have enough arguments, easy to bring in discussion arguments about russification, and other Romanian fairy tales.
