I think it is time for this thread as I get bullied and attacked just about everytime I claim or say something about my British ancestry.

It never happens when I talk about my Italian ancestry. Why the double standard? Why do other people get so offended when I identify with my British ancestry, and not my Italian side??

Is there something that people do not like about it?? I don't care if I look British or not it doesn't matter I still am going to identify with my heritage. If you guys don't like it and feel every 5 second you have to remind me I do not look British it gets annoying. Even when I am talking about nothing related to it someone just has to say it. Why do people care so much?? I never have that problem when I talk about my Italianiness.

I mean, I'm purely descended from Anglo settlers (including those who were Anglicised). Everyone in my family some how or some way either immigrated from or to England or an English colony. But would I say I'm English? No, because I'm not. I'm an American, last time I checked my passport, U.S.A.

Ancestral discussions honestly bore me because its like you're talking about a bunch of people who 1.) Are dead, 2.) Literally have no impact on your life, and 3.) Most likely would've shunned or killed you for any choices in life considered normal and modern nowadays.

So it's like, who cares?

The Anglo-Saxon bit is what grates on my nerves. People are free to identify whatever way they wish but in many European countries they will just think of you as American, Australian etc.

Anyway JohnSmith has mixed ancestry. He is not just half British. I think if one parent is born in a country then I can understand people identifying with that ethnicity but not if someone's Great Grandmother was born there. Not sure how far back John's British ancestry is? He's never clarified that bit.

I also disagree with there being a double standard as I've seen Italians get annoyed when Americans claim they are Italian when they haven't been born there on here as well. I can understand people saying they have such and such descent but not saying they are actually that ethnicity when they haven't even visited the county in question.
