They choose the left politics because its the social orthodoxy of our time. Neo Liberalism has become a politically correct cult. Because rich people are usually in a bubble of ignorant bliss.They don't have to worry about "real people problems" usually, so they tend to choose fantasy Politicians to govern them. If they were working with the low and middle class, they'd probably realize the Left is a joke.

Riches at Copacabana beach demonstrating in favor of PSOL(extreme left)
PSOL won the elections in Copacabana and most of the rich neighborhoods of the city.
But they lost to poor, middle-class neighborhoods voters.
