From what I've read, cannabis consumption practices were also common in ancient Thracian and Dacian societies, in southeastern Europe. They were known to have had some contacts and influences from the migrating Scythians. So it's an interesting connection.

I think the Germanic word Hanafs (cannabis) goes back to Goth times (at least 400 AD), so Germanic tribes definitely knew about cannabis.

Yeah, apparently the word for 'hemp' in English is ultimately derived from Scythian.

I think the ancient Indians or Iranians used a drug called soma or haoma in shamanic practices, which may have had to do with mushrooms.
