We've always been counting Mexico as part of Central America.

You're in the Latin American section, not in the Polish one, so you should show some respect.

There is nothing disrespectful about saying that Mexico is in Central America.

Usually its taught in the West there are two continents there.
    North and South America.
    Mexico is in North America.

    HOWEVER,

    when we talk about regions
its Northern, Central, and Southern Americas.
    and Mexico is in Central

North America (Continent) vs Northern America (Region)
    I know its weird.

Calling Mexico Central (instead of North) American is about as disrespectful as calling Poland East (instead of Central) European. In other words - not disrespectful at all. It's just an opinion.

    What west? Europe?

In america we are taught that mexico is in north america while central america starts with guatemala and ends with panama

Central america is a sub-region just like the caribbean

To be honest in school we were taught Mexico was in Central America, though objectively speaking to me it’s in North America (it’s just common sense by looking at the map).

Anyways this argument reminds me of the one regarding people calling USA by the name of America - which is in fact an entire continent, not a country. If they only knew we dont even associate the word America to USA because for us they’re Estados Unidos or Estadounidenses (staters). Americano for us is anyone living in America (any region). At least in Uruguay its like that.
