We are not really mixed as I am also Northern European myself. I have family members on my side that are lighter featured than some of her "Northern European American" family. My Central Italian family is very pale and we have red hair family on that side, so stuff like this happens it is not really that surprising. Europeans carry recessive genes and you can find a lot of lighter featured Southern Europeans and vice versa. My children have light hair and one has light eyes. So they just look like ordinary white Americans.
As for people of mixed race I am sure it is not easy for all. However, I have seen some cases where a mixed race person is able to fit in both groups within the black and white crowd. So, some can thrive and can benefit from that type of social networking. I think many also can be very successful in seeking employment as they can socially interact easier with both groups. I worked with a biracial guy he is still my friend and he was able to fit in both groups just fine. It is sometimes I think weird for him but being biracial does have benefits not everyone is some-kind of outcast.
Most people I think will be accepting of someone as long as they want to be accepted. I think the bigger issue within the black community is the issues between dark skin and light skin girls. My wife is a teacher and has seen a lot of bullying of dark skin girls by light skin girls and they are all black.
