Does liking the same stuff automatically make you compatible with someone?

When I was fourteen I thought I would be so compatible with someone who liked the same obscure viking/Icelandic shit I was into. Now that I’m older I know it’s not true. I sometimes really get along with people who have completely different interests than me. I also don’t automatically get along with people who share my interests like I though I would. Is conversation easier at first? Yes. But you can’t build a whole relationship on that.

Not necessarily. Too similar isn't always good from my experience. It leads to awkwardness sometimes. In general though, I think being similar with a partner is better than being opposites, but a little separation is good too in terms of interests, etc.

I think politics should be somewhat similar most of the time. Like if someone is an SJW like me, I probably should be close friends with someone who is into alt right stuff. I thought I could, but I can’t. Not dating men is an important part of my life, but a shockingly small percentage of the population understand that. They think it’s just me being closed minded.

IMO, having the same likes/interests opens opportunities for conversations and bonding (to an extent), however I think that chemistry is the most important thing in a relationship to keep it sustainable.

I usually end up with people with whom I have little in common when it comes to main interests. Liking the same stuff does not necessarily mean that you will be compatible as there are many other factors that will affect how you perceive one another.
To summarize, if a person is a dim-witted you probably are not going to get along even if you share things in common.

I have met people in the gym who are just as much obsessed with fitness as I am yet outside of it we are very incompatible people and don't mix socially.
