Playing devil's advocate here, but wouldn't the original colonists and their descendants be the true Americans? Discuss.

But why though? What makes them more American than say the son of a Arab and a Mexican who grew up in Texas?

Cause I have been conditioned to think so I guess. These ancestries are mentioned most often in American movies and soap operas.

    Culture.

Someone who grows up believing the teachings of Mahomet the false prophet and speaking Spanish (instead of English, the language of our nation and founding fathers) is not equally American in a sociocultural sense as someone who grows up going to church every Sunday and speaking English.

They may be legally equally American, but that is the only way in which they are equally American.

What about the blacks? I strongly associate them too with Americanism.

They're usually American culturally. The Islamic/Black Panther ones, not really.

African American muslims are nothing like those from the rest of the world. Actually this would be a good topic. Whether if the muslim people around the world feel any kinship with muslim Afro-American and vice versa.

I doubt a black person of islamic faith from Philadelphia feels any connection with Ahmed from Oman or Pakistan.
