Are some of Orthodox people ashamed to be Orthodox?
I got this impression from some Greeks, Russians and Serbs writing on TA. I think this might also have some reality levels irl too.
When you refer to their Orthodoxy, their Orthodox heritage you see that all these people became uncomfortable all of a sudden. They give reaction as if it's something negative you know, like something which puts them off from the European identity and culture. So they try to deflect the discussion or they simply show up with unexpectedly aggressive reactions.
Just looking at some of the Greek members here, they desperately try to tie themselves with Catholic south Italians and rejecting (admitting as an insult) to be grouped with people like Serbs or Bulgarians.
Some of the Serbs, while arguing with Croats (who seem very proud of being what they are) also show uncomfortable reactions and that becomes exploitation material by other people who want to troll Serbs.
That's the same with some Russians. These Russians have more unease. They can't really embrace the German influence brought by Peter Great or German Catherina. They seem to be twisted too.
When you listen to the speech of Stalin, he says that Soviet people's hate lagging behind civilization level... İ mean is that why he became Communist and enemy of the Orthodox church? Did he consider Orthodoxy as main reason for Russia's backwardness compared to Western/European nations? If Stalin was born Catholic or Protestant, would he be that church-hater?
Is there correlation of being Orthodox born and having leaning for communism for example? Among Yugoslavs, the Orthodox Serbs are the most Partizan communists (followed by Bosniaks).
I mean it's senseless. You guys have a very old history, you should embrace it.
The sane Orthodoxes who embrace their own heritage are like silent not to cause flames. That's really sad for them.
