'MURICANS! I happen to speak 5, so represent!

On a serious not I'd say South Africans many Afrikaner that grew up around Apartheid spoke English as well as they did Afrikaans and German plus they also seemed rather good and quick at learning Italian or Spanish and for some reason pronounced the words way better than their American, Canadian and British counterparts would've.

One of the most philistine and unforgivable things the last Labour government did in Britain was to make it no longer a requirement to take foreign languages at GCSE level. (And these are the very same politicians who endlessly harp on about "our global world").

As abominable as Apartheid was, I do find many White SAs to be very cultured actually.
