If you control for education levels, father in the home, income etc., then you will see similar racial prison rates. 96% of kids born to non black women with black men are born out of marriage.

Yep. Also to you original point. I think competition is probably more evident within your same racial ethnic group, as people are more comfortable
to display whatever behavior they want to. If you are around people that you less close to people are more reserved. Not talking about guys playing sports to get a scholly to State U or for a pro contract, but in general daily living. Although I have noticed borderline hostile behavior from black dudes if I am with a black or mixed women. People in general are more cautious not being in the same ethnic comfort zone.
