No, I always think of Finland as being a Northern European nation.

Northeast, so yes it's part of the east side of Europe.
Note that to me west, east, north or south are cardinal points, not indicators of wealth or culture.

Finns are Finns. They have their own culture. Historically speaking Finland has been a part of two big European empires, Sweden and Russia. Both of them influenced Finland, but culturally Finland is more western. The west gave more good things to Finland. But mentally speaking Finns have some Eastern European vibes as well. Or should i say "eastern vibes". Finns are more like Japanese than Slavic, that's for sure.
Finland is a rich and modern economy, despite being a bit poorer than other Nordic states (lets forget Iceland this time). So Finland is not spoiled by decades of Communist dictatorship.
Geographically speaking Finland is a Northern European country. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fennoscandia
Genetically Finns are some kind of mix between West and East. Eastern is not necessarily "Russian". Finns are more western than Russians but less western than Scandinavians.
The conclusion: Finland is Finland and is not Eastern European country. You can find the list of Eastern European countries here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Europe
