rolleyes Children's TV shows, films & cartoons

Can anyone recommend good children's TV shows, old and new, from Scandinavia, UK, France, Germany, Poland, Ukraine or Netherlands? Films also? How about one or two that stick in your mind as a child?

I have a "regionless" DVD player and have collected a fairly large collection of British, Canadian, Australian and American kids shows (Charlie and Lola, Mr. Benn, Bagpuss, The Magic Roundabout, Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit - BBC, The Big Comfy Couch, all the Shirley Temple movies, all the Little Rascals / Our Gang movies, etc).

They would be for my two daughters, ages 3 and 4...

Postman Pat. A thousand times, Postman Pat!

Btw, I can only vouch for the 80s/90s ones. According to Wiki they've made some more in the 2000s (long after I stopped watching it ), you might want to avoid those ones, probably all full of PC-crap (Beornie was saying something about his daughter watching children's television and all the multikult garbage they insert...).

Moomin, Pippi Lĺngstrump, Ronja Rövarsdotter (my favourite movie as a kid),

Moomins you can get English, I'm not sure about the others.

There have been several highly acclaimed children's movies from Finland in recent years, but I can't give a personal opinion as I haven't seen them:

Rölli ja Metsänhenki (Rölli [=a kind of troll, children's character] and the Forest Spirit)

    Joulutarina (Christmas Tale)

Unna ja Nuuk (Unna and Nuuk)

There have been many more, I can make some additions later on.

We do have Pippi. I thought the Moomins were only books. Are they movies or cartoons also?

I am downloading Ronja Rövarsdotter now (with English subs).

I have watched many Finnish films and my wife and I always like them!!

    Thanks!!

Your daughters are too young for the good stuff.

    But here are some suggestions:

    Emil i Lönneberga
    Kaj & Andrea
    Pingu

Don't you have a marvelous narrator of children's books in the US?
I could sit for hours and listen to this man's voice when I was a kid.

Hm, as far as french shows go, I mostly grew up on dubbed english shows, but there were a few good ones out there.

If quebec french counts, then I recommend Passe-Partout (something I watched when I was 2-4 years old)

If you want shows from France (that aired on Quebec tv) then I recommend 'Billy The Cat' (Yes, the name is in english, but the show itself was in french)

Lastly, one can't forget about the classic Smurfs (or Les Schtroumpfs as they are known en francais )
