J2a – Anyone know anything?

Hey,

Results came back as J2a for my mtdna, specifically the subclade is J2a1a1a. I do not know much but from what I have read, J2a1 is an “exclusively European group,” on the other hand, J2a2 is considered as “Near Eastern linage.” Overall, this Haplogroup seems to be uncommon in any relevant population.

So, my question is does anybody know anything about this Haplogroup or have any suggestions where I could find more information?

Interesting. As far as I know my mother-line traces back to around Lower Saxony in Germany which would make sense.

Just found this "migration map" of J2a1, thought you may want to see it:

Seems like you are probably right, explorers from the East settled at original Celtic territory.
Apparently J2a1 "arose 16,500 years ago" - so from my understanding it is relatively "new" when compared to other Euro Haplogroups, or am I wrong?
