The Portugueses are not bad at it.

Generally speaking the Iberians aren't much interested in athletical performance.
Though they are richly endowed with snowy mountains they never reap a single medal in the Winter Olympics.
This year Portugal has sent to Korea only 2 contenders (Liechtenstein: three!)
It s not enough.. It needs all year round snowy peaks and a culture of valley-mountain to excell in snow sports

In italy for example all the athletes are usually from the Alpine valleys

But however snowy mountainous Abruzzo never excelled and doesn't t have a culture of snowy sports like the Alpines instead do have.

It s more of a Forma Mentis

If we exclude Alberto Tomba and a Tuscan from the appennine athlete wich i Don t remember the name, for italy.. All of our ski great Champions were from the Alpine Valleys

It's simple: lack of government investment or support.
Every Olympics we hear about the complaints of athletes regarding poor conditions and little government support.

Our music is for internal consumption only. We don't really care if foreigners listen to it.

There's no big mountains here, so people care as much as Winter Olympics as they do about American Football. Also no one has ever heard of those two athletes, but i checked and they are called Arthur Hanse and Kequyen Lam, so obviously not locals. No one is gonna follow them and their performances won't make any headlines.

Could be our lack of hooked noses as well. Ever thought about it? Maybe it is giving an edge to your people.

Doubt. The Portuguese pop singers would love international fame, win grammys and lots of money.

    Wow.. Butthurtness

You do have your fair share of hook nose people too btw.

It seems that maybe you are not super tall and you have lean Gracile body in a good portion of your people, wich in some sports is a disvantage.. But in many others too is an advantage..

I wasn't talking about pop singers. Those will only have global success if they sing in english anyway.

"Lambada" did not need to sing in English to be number one in several countries. And neither the classics of Brazilian samba and mpb.

Portugal at least does not play with all is teams full of foreigners, in fact ethnic French are really incompetent in sports. All your national teams are leaded by foreigners, since handball, basket, football, rugby, all.

I made a thread about the French incompetence in sports but unfortunately when the forum was fucked this thread dissapeared

That was a one hit wonder, no one knows the name of the Lambada singer. You talked about successful singers.

    And what?
Anais Bescond, who won a medal in biathlon yesterday, is from Normandy, whose "mountains" are rarely higher than 400 m...
But she trains on the high plateau of Eastern France (Jura)
Or is it just Norwegian Viking blood boiling in her veins?
