Athens asks Tirana to delete the term "Chamaria" from Albanian textbooks
Greece's Foreign Minister Nikos Kodzias urged Albania to "clean up" school textbooks from the "Cham Issue".
Kodzias said that during the talks of the Joint Expert Commission, the Greek side made it clear to Albanian officials that the terms "Albanian territories in Greece" and the term "Chamariya" for part of the Greek territory should be erased from textbooks on history and geography because these are irredentist concepts.
For the head of Greek diplomacy, the Cham problem does not exist for an official Athens. Albanian television "Klan" informed that the Greek minister requested the deletion of the term "Chami" also at the meeting with his Albanian counterpart, Ditmir Bushati.
At the last meeting of the mixed Greek-Albanian Expert Commission, the Greek side categorically demanded the deletion of textbooks in words about some "Albanian territories in Greece".
"Also, the Greek geographical area, which is named as" Chamariya "in the textbooks, unfortunately shows that the Albanian state is blocked in nationalist rhetoric. It hurts first of all to Albania itself, "Kodzias said.
Albanian Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati also reacted to this topic, which confirmed that a joint working group was set up to "evaluate history textbooks in both countries". Earlier, Greek President, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, threatened Albania that if it wanted in the EU, it should "close its mouth for some non-existent issue for the Chams".
