Her last name was Bridges, and her mother's maiden name was Portelli.

Her maternal grandmother was actually English and had some Maltese ancestry.

The 26-year old singer's ancestry has been traced back to Tottenham in north London where her great grandparents, George Anthony Portell and Lillian Esther Lewis, appear to have been sharing a home before they were married.

The arrangement would have caused outrage back in the 1920s.

According to Parish records, George, the son of a newsagent, and Lillian, daughter of a lighting inspector named James Lewis, were married on July 29, 1923 at St John's Church in Tottenham.

So it means she is 1/8 Maltese, and Britney only 1/16th.

But she looks very Maltese to me, even still.
