He would be stupid attacking Erdogan, but smart enough to push Erdogan that far that he gets attacked.
Assad and SAA tried this before by blocking the Euphrates Shield, but Erdogan then decided to stop the advance, he had no choice anyway except also attack SAA and Russia.

It will be through proxies, not direct fighting.Assad realizes he does not stand a chance against Turkey, and even with Iranian support. However the story in Afrin is different, it's my enemies are my friend type of deal. Personally I want to see the integrity of Syria, but I don't care about the northeast regions they can duke it for all they want.

The biggest problem in this:
Western evil governments, who started all this, and pretend to be heros fighting terrorist and liberating. They primarly function under Anglo imperialism and working with Zionist interests.
They have NO right to be in Syria. Invaders all of them.
Next is Turkey, unpredicatable. I dont even know what the hell they want.
The Kurds are in several borders?! Whoever drew the map of the Middle East was dumb.
Israel. No one does anything to stop them. They do what they want. All they have to do is shout Holocaust and Anti-semite. Seems everyone just falls in line.
They bomb Syria illegally.
Assad (regardless of what he did) is the legimate ruler. Syria is a soveirgn state.
Only people Assad invited should be there.
