Actually West Asians were considered white until 1909 when a Syrian policeman arrested someone and the guy sued and claimed the arrest was invalid because the officer was ''Chinese-Mongolian'' and thus had no right to arrest him. The courts found during the case that Syrians had been legally white for over a century prior to this but nevertheless the officer's naturalization application was opposed by the US Government and Arabs were declared non-white by US immigration authorities. However, this lasted for less than 10 years because in the immigration act of 1917 Syrians and Palestinians were declared white again.

Well Im roughly a quarter MENA (Plus some Amerindian and SSA) and everyone in my family has been white since America became America. There are little bits of folklore here and there about an Indian chief, Jewish miners, etc, but thats just oral history. There are different eras in Southern history and opinions on race varied a lot.
